  • CEAC - Center of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry
    The Center of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry (CEAC) promotes research collaborations and coordinates teaching activities between the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETHZ), other research institutions, and companies in the Zürich area.

  • EAWAG - Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology
    Multidisciplinary teams of specialists in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Natural and Social Sciences jointly develop solutions to environmental problems. The acquired knowledge and know-how is transmitted nationally and internationally by publications, lectures, teaching, and consulting to the private and public sector.

  • EMPA - Eidgenössische Materialprüfungs- und Forschungsanstalt
    Empa is dedicated mainly to promoting safety for man and the environment. Empa ist involved in the following fields:
    • research and development, above all with the goals of improving the economic and ecological use of materials as well as the development of test methods and equipment
    • services in the form of testing and consultation, etc.
    • knowledge and technology transfer for the benefit of the Swiss industry
    • collaboration in the preparation of standards and regulations in the respective technical areas
    • participation in the enforcement of Federal ordinances.

  • PSI - Paul Scherrer Institut

Virtual University

  • Swiss Virtual Campus
    The Swiss Virtual Campus program is part of a process aimed at promoting the "information society" in Switzerland as well as enabling education - in particular tertiary education - to take advantage of the opportunities now available through new information and communication technology. In this respect the program hopes to provide students with a virtual mobility which will enable them to play an active role in learning processes and follow high-quality courses on their computers. The principal concrete aim of the program is to develop accessible teaching modules through the Internet, in particular for subjects which attract large numbers of students. In order to take into account the specific needs of the universities of applied sciences projects might also involve continuing education and developing a range of services in the field of didactics and virtual teaching methods, as well as helping to set up didactic, technical and ergonomic support centers.

    • Awards project-specific grants;
    • Periodical assessment of how National Centers of Competence in Research are allotted with respect to distribution of tasks among universities throughout Switzerland;
    • Recognition of academic bodies and courses;
    • Issuing directives on evaluation of teaching and research;
    • Issuing directives on knowledge transfer in research.
    • Further, the CUS makes recommendations on cooperation, on plans for the future and on balanced division of tasks within the universities; it informs parties affected by current projects and consults them.

  • FIT Board / ETH-Rat / Conseil des EPF
    The Board of the Federal Institutes of Technology is responsible for the FITs consisting of the two Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne (ETHZ, EPFL) and the four research establishments: Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Federal Research Institute for Woodland, Snow and Countryside (WSL), Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA), Federal Institute for Water Supplies, Waste Water Treatment and Water Resources Protection (EAWAG).
